On May 27, 2025, JamiiAfrica held a joint discussion with editors from various media outlets, media owners, representatives from civil society organizations working on journalist welfare, good governance, human rights, and accountability, officials from government institutions and departments responsible for information and accountability, as well as development stakeholders. The discussion focused on the state of accountability and public interest reporting.

Participants analyzed various factors contributing to the lack of priority given to accountability journalism in the media. They also discussed the role of editors and editorial ethics in determining the fate of news that serves the public interest, as well as the low level of public engagement in following good governance reporting and how this aligns with media trends.

During the discussion, joint recommendations were made on the best approaches to promote the production and dissemination of accountability reporting. They also proposed strategies to strengthen collaboration among journalists, editors, and civil society organizations to elevate the focus on news that benefits the public.
