JamiiAfrica participated in the 3rd National Forum on Youth, Peace and Security, bringing together youth leaders, government representatives, civil society organizations, development partners, academia, faith-based organizations, private sector actors, media institutions, and youth networks at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.
Co-hosted by the African Leadership Initiatives for Impacts (ALII) and the Center for Youth Dialogue (CYD), in collaboration with the Youth4Peace Agenda Coalition and other stakeholders, the forum was held under the theme “INVEST IN PEACE: Empowering Youth for a Peaceful, Inclusive and Resilient Tanzania.” It provided a national platform to discuss the role of young people in peacebuilding, social cohesion, accountable governance, and sustainable development.
At the forum, JamiiAfrica highlighted the growing influence of young people in Tanzania’s digital environment and the importance of equipping them with the skills to engage safely, responsibly, and constructively online. The organization emphasized strengthening youth capacity to identify and counter misinformation, hate speech, harmful online content, and online radicalization, while promoting technology as a tool for dialogue, civic participation, accountability, and social cohesion.
As digital platforms increasingly shape how Tanzanians communicate, access information, and participate in public life, JamiiAfrica encouraged young people to take greater responsibility for the content they consume and share. The organization introduced JamiiCheck, its citizen-centred information verification platform, and promoted a “verify before you share” approach to help reduce the spread of misinformation and misleading content.
JamiiAfrica also emphasized the importance of strengthening youth skills in digital literacy, fact-checking, responsible communication, cybersecurity awareness, and the ethical use of technology. These capabilities can help young people navigate emerging digital risks while using technology to contribute positively to their communities and society.
JamiiAfrica’s participation reinforced its commitment to empowering young people as active contributors to peacebuilding, democratic participation, accountability, and social cohesion, while promoting a safer, more inclusive, and resilient digital environment in Tanzania.
