As part of JamiiAfrica’s strategic objective to equip journalists and media practitioners with the skills and tools to use online spaces effectively, we held a workshop on April 8, 2025, with 25 Media and Mass Communication students from Tumaini University focused on combating misinformation and disinformation.
During the session, students learned practical strategies for countering false information and received an in-depth introduction to JamiiAfrica’s fact-checking platform, JamiiCheck—including how to submit information and participate in the verification process. They were also introduced to various open-source tools, demonstrated live, to help them carry out their own fact-checking.
Students reported gaining a deeper understanding of different types and sources of false information, such as manipulated content, misleading headlines, and false context. Some expressed strong interest in learning more about JamiiAfrica and the JamiiForums platform.
This initiative aligns with JamiiAfrica’s mission to build inclusive communities and empower citizens with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions. It forms part of our broader commitment to promoting access to accurate, reliable information and developing a new generation of media professionals dedicated to safeguarding truth in the digital era.
