I returned to ‘Shy town’ to watch the opening session of what any one worth being called ‘African’ would be proud of.
So I made way to one Shinyanga Motel, on a bar side to watch the opening function of soccer world cup 2010.In the corners of this large town of Shinyanga, everywhere it’s excitement. A sense of opportunity. Self satisfaction, in a peasant, professional doctor, sheikh, priest, boda boda rider, bar waiter/waitress etc.
It’s excitement. Everyone seems to have a story to tell. Husbands who saved a hand and a leg to buy a TV in a small village of Itinje or Tinde ,such that his 30 neighbours can watch world cup. A wife who will be ‘forced’ to keep out late to escort her husband to watch a late night match. It’s to make sure the hubby does not use the excuse of world cup to explore with madams on the side.
It is such excitement I used to have during every first Friday of the month during secondary school days some 9 years back.
We had a thing called the TFI night in the most popular night club in town. Only techno music was played on this particular day for us, (the wanabes) to shake a leg ,whole night loooong, with no bucks to afford a drink.
Interestingly, this World cup excitement has come like that described ‘law of attraction’ in the SECRET book and movie.
It has come at a time when Shinyanga town has just got a new road that is every one’s attraction. Everyone’s freedom away from dust.
With buzz of activity, more shops are coming up on this newly constructed Uhuru tarmac road, stretching well over 5km, and seemingly, the darling of most daladalas (bicycles), pedestrians, private cars, and more shop business.
The Regional Tanzania Revenue Authority Offices, are imposed on the same road, as if to be closer to the booming business, to know exactly where and how to collect the tax and benefit from the development as well. You know our budget is 11.6trillion this fiscal year.
It is said, TRA in the region, may have more trips to the bank this year, and with the sort of business the new road is stimulating.
All TV sets, antennas to help villagers watch world cup from their homes in the rural sides may, after all, have come from the multiplying shops along this same road.

The roads are too lough i the manner that it can burst car tires if Shy town fellows can not take action against the region road manager.Kiwango cha lami ni kibovu mwanzo mwisho.Mfano barabara ya kwenda Old shy unaweza kulia halafu omba bajeti na gharama kwa ujumla nado utachoka zaidi. Please Magufuli visit the region ujionee i think utafukuza mpaka watumiaji.
