On 24 June 2026, the JamiiAfrica team joined stakeholders in commemorating 63 years of development cooperation between Sweden and Tanzania, a partnership that has played a significant role in advancing social and economic progress across the country.
Established in 1963, the Sweden–Tanzania partnership has contributed to transformative initiatives in key areas including education, human rights, innovation, climate action, good governance, and community development.
The anniversary comes at a time when Sweden is transitioning its engagement with Tanzania, with Stockholm set to phase out direct bilateral development assistance by 31 August 2026 and shift towards a partnership model focused on trade, multilateral cooperation, and other strategic areas.
Over the decades, this collaboration has created lasting impact and supported numerous organizations, including JamiiAfrica, in implementing community-driven initiatives that promote accountability, digital rights, civic participation, and sustainable development.
Reflecting on this legacy, JamiiAfrica recognizes the invaluable support and trust received through this long-standing partnership, which has strengthened efforts to create meaningful change and empower communities.
During the commemorative event, JamiiAfrica Executive Director, Mr. Maxence Melo, moderated a discussion that brought together stakeholders to reflect on Sweden’s contributions to Tanzania’s development journey. The discussion highlighted achievements and projects supported by the Swedish Embassy in areas such as education, health, agriculture, good governance, and accountability.
As Sweden and Tanzania begin a new chapter in their relationship, JamiiAfrica remains proud to be part of a partnership whose impact continues to inspire and support efforts towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.
