Advancing Internet Governance: JamiiAfrica at Africa Internet Governance Forum 2025

JamiiAfrica took part in the 14th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF 2025), held from May 29 to 31, 2025, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The forum, themed “Empowering Africa’s Digital Future,” brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from across the continent to engage in high-level discussions on the current state and future of internet governance in Africa.

At the forum, JamiiAfrica hosted its own booth, which served as a platform to inform attendees about its programs and daily operations aimed at creating a more informed citizenry, fostering a more responsive government, and increasing citizen participation in various development agendas such as political engagement, governance, livelihoods, and the digital economy. This opportunity allowed JamiiAfrica to connect and explore potential collaborations with institutions and individuals.

Additionally, JamiiAfrica participated in several panel discussions, including one titled “Strengthening Information Integrity: An African Stakeholder Roundtable.” During this discussion, JamiiAfrica highlighted the importance of fact-checking information and, more importantly, engaging citizens in the process, empowering them to verify information—especially during the lead-up to elections.

JamiiAfrica’s participation in AfIGF 2025 reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital rights, meaningful connectivity, and accountable governance in Tanzania and the wider region. The insights gained at the forum will guide our ongoing advocacy, content creation, and coalition-building efforts to promote a free, inclusive, and secure digital space for all.
