During ceremony held at the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam on September 13, Regional Security Officer M. Jeremy Yamin presented the Tanzania Police Force (TPF) with over Tsh.156 million ($100,000 USD) in law enforcement equipment for cyber crime investigations and evidence collection.
The items donated include 26 laptops computers, 14 CPU, computer routers, 15 external hard drives, 33 digital cameras, and 30 individual forensic lab kits already issued to trained TPF officers.
The event was attended by Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Sospeter Kondela, and twenty Tanzania Police Force officials. “In every nation, citizens must have trust in its security institutions, especially in regards to public protection, access to justice, and combating the scourge of human trafficking. We believe these equipments are investments that will enhance strong professional institutions because serving the people of Tanzania, supporting human rights, and strengthening democracy are our shared goals,” Yamin concluded. Mr. Yamin added that sponsorship of the law enforcement equipment underscores the commitment of the United States of America to partner with the Tanzania Police Force to strengthen its capacity to serve the people of Tanzania. In terms of overall support, in the past twelve months, the American People have delivered approximately 2.4 billion Tanzanian shillings (1.5 million USD) in equipment and training support to the Tanzania Police Force. This includes seven 10-meter fully equipped police patrol boats valued at approximately $ 90,000 USD each. It includes training and equipment for the rehabilitation of the police forensic laboratory. It also includes the training costs for nearly 400 Tanzania Police Force members in some 30 separate courses in Tanzania and abroad.
